OFTEC FAQs

What is OFTEC?

OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association) is a scheme, similar to Gas Safe, which allows a business and/or engineer to show that they are competent when it comes to working with oil, solid fuel and renewable heating systems.

The OFTEC scheme is aimed to give you peace of mind when hiring an engineer for your oil based heating system, knowing that the work carried out will be done both correctly and safely.

What is an OFTEC certificate?

An OFTEC certificate will show that any oil based heating equipment was installed correctly and is running safely. This may be required when either selling or renting out your property.

How Does OFTEC registration work?

In order to become OFTEC registered the engineer must undertake training and assessment to ensure that they are competent and safe when working with oil appliances. This then needs to be regularly renewed to ensure competence.
