Gas Safe FAQs
What is the Gas Safe Register?
The Gas Safe Register is the official gas registration body across the UK. It is a requirement by law that all businesses which deal with gas must be on the Gas Safe Register.
The requirements for a business to be on the Gas Safe Register is that they have at least one gas safety qualified engineer. To achieve this they must undertake training and assessment in relation to gas safety.
The Gas Safe Register also ensures that compliance with gas safety regulations are met by investigating any complaints or reports of illegal work and issuing sanctions against those that do not meet the standards.
How To Become A Gas Safe Engineer?
To become a Gas Safe Engineer you need to be able to prove that you fully understand and are competent when working with gas. This is something all our engineers have been through so we know the process.
Gas Safety training is usually given as part of a course when first starting out either through an apprenticeship or college course. There are also refresher courses for those who have been in industry longer and can be valuable as legislation is changed over time.
Once the training has been completed an accredited assessment will then take place to show that you are competent with gas safety which provides proof to the Gas Safe Register and you can apply to become a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.
When did Gas Safe replace CORGI?
The Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI in Great Britain on the 1st April 2009.
How long does Gas Safe Registration last?
Gas Safe Registration is linked to the engineer and is required to be renewed each year.
This ensures that all Gas Safe Registered Engineers are fully trained and up to date with Gas Safe legislation. Something we take pride in ensuring with our engineers here at TVM Plumbing.
