As lockdown part 2 is fully underway in England, many have been left confused by the new rules and whether or not you are able to call out a plumber or heating engineer during lockdown. With many of our customers asking us about this, we decided to put together a handy guide for you.
Can I call out a plumber during lockdown?
The short answer is yes, you can still call out a plumber during the lockdown period so long as it’s for an emergency repair or maintenance. For example, if you are left without heating or hot water, you may need a new boiler fitting, all of these jobs are classed as essential. Furthermore, if you have a gas or water leak then this is also deemed an emergency and it is acceptable for you to call out your local plumber.
Landlord gas safety checks
The same is true for landlord gas safety checks, which are a legal requirement. Your landlord should inform you in advance when this is due to take place, and provided we have your details we will do our best to contact you in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Annual boiler service
Boiler services, bathroom upgrades, general boiler or central heating works are deemed as non-essential plumbing and this work would need to be carried out after the lockdown restrictions have been lifted as advised by the government. Due to the fact we can not check boilers for their annual maintenance, most manufacturers have put special provisions in place so that your cover remains valid – but it is advisable to avoid delaying it unless absolutely necessary.
Can I still get a quote?
Although in most cases we can’t currently do site visits, we are offering a video service so that you can get your boiler quote and be ready to have your new boiler fitted at the earliest opportunity. We can also discuss your requirements by phone. We can call you at a time and day convenient to you, in the day or evening, and carry out a visit with zero risk.
If your plumbing needs fall into the above, this will mean it is categorised as a plumbing emergency and we will be able to visit your home to do a survey and give a quote. We can only visit emergency situations if you are without heating or hot water, or have a gas, water or oil leak.
We offer a free quotation service so please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Our commitment to safety
During emergency visits, our engineers and plumbers will do the utmost to make all our visits safe with minimal contact. Our team will wear face masks and sanitise before, after and during longer home visits. We kindly ask customers to follow social distancing rules and allow engineers and plumbers a minimum of 2m space at all times to adhere to government guidelines.
